Sandown Park in Surrey stages both Flat and jumps racing. It is a right-handed, galloping track with a stiff uphill finish, plus a separate straight course for sprints.
On the Flat, the Group 1 Eclipse Stakes is run in July. Over jumps, the Tingle Creek Chase is run in December, and the jumps season finale in April features the bet365 Gold Cup.
Flat racing runs from April to September; jumps racing runs from November to late April.
The uphill finish is a proper test of stamina, so horses who stay their trip well tend to come into their own. Over fences, the railway fences down the back straight call for accurate jumping. Check the going, especially in winter. 18+ BeGambleAware.org.
