King's Top Tips
The King George VI Chase is a Grade 1 chase over three miles at Kempton Park on Boxing Day, the centrepiece of the course's two-day Christmas Festival. It is one of the biggest staying chases of the British jumps season. Selections publish on the day of racing — see today's racing tips or the Kempton course page. 18+ BeGambleAware.
The King George is run at Kempton Park on 26 December, Boxing Day, as the highlight of the course's Christmas Festival, which continues on 27 December. The race was first run in 1937, and Kauto Star won it a record five times. Race times are confirmed in the days before the meeting.
The races are spread over the two days of the festival, and the official racecard confirms which day each one is run, the race times and the final fields.
Kempton's jumps course is right-handed and flat, a sharper test than Cheltenham or Haydock that rewards a horse who travels and jumps quickly. A horse who stays three miles well at a stiffer track may find Kempton's pace a different test.
These are general notes about the course and time of year, not a forecast: check the official going on the morning of racing.
The King George is usually shown live on ITV Racing on Boxing Day; check the TV listings on the day. Our ITV Racing guide explains what ITV covers.
Any selections we make for the meeting publish on the morning of racing, with the horse, the price at publishing, the jockey and trainer and our written reasoning. See the Kempton racing tips page for the course guide and that day's picks, and NAP of the Day for our strongest pick on each racing day.
