A NAP is a tipster's single strongest horse racing selection of the day. King's Top Tips publishes one nap of the day per racing day, free and win-only, each racing morning, with the course, race time, best available price and full written reasoning.
The word comes from Napoleon, a Victorian card game in which calling "Nap" meant promising to win all five tricks. Newspaper tipsters adopted it for their strongest selection, and the nap of the day still means the one horse rated above every other runner on the day's cards.
The NAP is the strongest selection; the NB is the second-strongest, usually a horse with one more question mark. We publish one horse racing nap per race day and list our other selections on today's horse racing tips as value or expert picks.
Every runner in scope is scored on a composite of Racing Post Rating (RPR), Official Rating (OFR), Topspeed, its last four finishing positions and the trainer's 14-day strike rate, with small adjustments for a low draw in bigger fields and first-time headgear, and a penalty for a long absence. The NAP is the highest-scoring horse on that composite; where it also trades above our de-vigged fair price it is labelled a value pick.
A nap says the horse should win, so we tip it to win. Each-way bets split the stake across a place part, which dilutes the call.
The card shows the horse, course, race time, price and bookmaker at publication, form score and confidence, jockey, trainer, official rating, recent form, going, distance, field size and the written reasoning. Check the current price before you bet.
On days with no UK or Irish racing, no NAP is published — the next NAP lands on the morning of the next meeting. When cards are running but nothing clears our rating and price threshold, we publish no NAP rather than force a pick.

A NAP is a tipster's single strongest selection of the day. We publish one NAP per race day: the one horse we rate above everything else on the UK and Irish cards, tipped win-only. Every other racing selection that day is graded separately as a value pick or an expert pick.
NAP isn't an acronym. It comes from Napoleon, a Victorian card game in which calling "Nap" meant promising to win all five tricks, the boldest call at the table. Newspaper racing tipsters adopted the word for their strongest selection of the day, and it has been used that way in British racing ever since.
The NAP is a tipster's strongest selection of the day; the NB ("next best") is the second-strongest, usually a horse with a sound case but one more question mark, such as an untried trip or a change in the going. We publish a single NAP per race day and list our other selections as value or expert picks on the horse racing tips page rather than labelling one as an NB.
Our nap of the day is published each racing morning, ahead of the first meeting. It shows the course, race time, the best win price across the fixed-odds bookmakers in our odds feed when we publish (exchanges excluded) and the full written reasoning. Racing prices move sharply on the morning of a race, so always confirm the current price with your bookmaker before backing.

No — only on days with UK or Irish racing. On days with no UK or Irish meetings no NAP is published and this page says so; the next NAP lands on the morning of the next meeting. On days when cards are running but nothing clears our rating and price threshold, we publish no NAP rather than force a pick.
