The Tingle Creek Chase is a Grade 1 two-mile chase at Sandown Park, run on the Saturday of a two-day meeting in early December. It is one of the first big tests of the season for the leading two-mile chasers, and is named after Tingle Creek, a popular two-mile chaser of the 1970s. Selections publish on the day of racing — see today's racing tips or the Sandown course page. 18+ BeGambleAware.
The Tingle Creek is the feature of Sandown Park's two-day meeting in early December, run on the Saturday after a Friday card. The race was first run in 1969, was renamed in 1979 after Tingle Creek, a much-loved two-mile chaser, and has been a Grade 1 since 1994. The exact dates are set in each year's fixture list.
Race times and final fields are confirmed by the declarations in the days before the meeting, and the order of races can change from year to year, so the official racecard is the one to check on the day.
Sandown is a right-handed, galloping track with a stiff uphill finish. The railway fences down the back straight come close together, so a fluent jumper can gain ground there, while a mistake is hard to recover from over two miles.
Winter ground at Sandown can turn soft. These are general notes about the course and time of year, not a forecast: check the official going on the morning of racing.
The Tingle Creek is usually shown live on ITV Racing; check the TV listings on the day. Our ITV Racing guide explains what ITV covers.
Any selections we make for the meeting publish on the morning of racing, with the horse, the price at publishing, the jockey and trainer and our written reasoning. See the Sandown racing tips page for the course guide and that day's picks, and NAP of the Day for our strongest pick on each racing day.
